What are your top 25 most played songs?
Submitted by Cooxie.
This was a fascinating exercise, because my top 25 songs as recorded by my battered iPod bear little relation to the songs I'd list if I were called upon to answer this question without technical assistance. It makes me wonder how the software compiles the the rankings. As it stands, my top 25 is heavily weighted toward up-tempo, workout-friendly songs, which makes sense, since my iPod does a lot of time a the gym. It doesn't include many songs I've added in the past couple months. So without further ado:
1) "Infested," Choking Victim (aka Leftover Crack) -- This aggressive little ditty cracked my list of Happy Songs. I was surprised to see it in the top spot, but it is on every single workout mix I make.
2) "Watching the Wheels," John Lennon -- My favorite song by anyone associated with the Beatles.
3) "Atomic," Blondie
4) "Time for Heros," The Libertines -- The first of several Libs' songs on the list. They make by far the most appearances.
5) "The Answer," Bloc Party -- My first real surprise. I was big on this song, and this band, for awhile, but they've kind of fallen out my favor recently.
6) "The Suffering," Coheed and Cambria -- Nerd metal at its finest.
7) "Up the Bracket," The Libertines -- That's two.
8) "Holland 1945," Neutral Milk Hotel -- I can thank Hotrod for this one. He linked to it on his blog and I bought this track from iTunes. I think I need to just get the whole record.
9) "Killamangiro," Babyshambles -- Two-and-a-half. Babyshambles' lead singer, Pete Doherty, was the lead singer of the Libertines.
10) "I Against I," Bad Brains
11) "See No Evil," Television -- I much prefer the song "Venus" from the same album, but I guess we must trust our Apple overlords.
12) "Against the Grain," Bad Religion -- I maintain against the grain.
13) "Death on the Stairs," The Libertines -- Three-and-a-half.
14) "Cemetry Gates," The Smiths -- Keats and Yates are on your side.
15) "Drain the Blood," The Distillers -- I've got a thing for punk-rock chicks. Brody Dalle would kick Liz Phair's ass.
16) "Mardy Bum," The Arctic Monkeys
17) "Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)," Coheed and Cambria -- I don't really love this band that much, but I guess I do put them on a lot of workout mixes. Still it seems odd they're on this list twice, and the only Clash song is a cover.
18) "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor," Arctic Monkeys -- I went through a phase where I was basically just looping this album again and again.
19) "Definition," Black Star -- Strange that there's only one hip hop track here. I'd have guessed more. Is it possible I'm not as "street" as I think I am? Wait, on second thought, don't answer that.
20) "Banquet," Bloc Party
21) "Welcome to Jamrock," Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley
22) "Tomblands," The Libertines -- That's the last of them.
23) "You Probably Couldn't See for the Lights but You Were Staring Straight at Me," Arctic Monkeys
24) "That Man Will Not Hang," McClusky -- The Welsh Pixies.
25) "I'm Not Down," Thea Gilmore -- Excellent cover of an excellent Clash song.
